Some persons seems to have that problem and it is usually solved by uninstalling Ad-Aware and installing new version after that.
How to uninstall Ad-Aware 9.x

When it had finished updating it said restart, which I did. After the restart I made sure that I removed the old Icon I was using on the Task-Bar and replaced it with the new Icon that was on my Laptop.
In a nutshell delete all old Icons off the Desktop and use the new ones.
I am using Windows 7 and the new Adaware is 9.6.0 Free Edition

After a restart of the Laptop, I clicked on the old icon on the Task-bar and it said to update.
I clicked on the new icon on the Desktop and it did NOTask me to update I checked that it had updated to 9.6.0 and it had.
So, I still recommend removing the Adaware icon off the Task-bar after restart and replacing it with the new icon on the desktop, or replacing it with the icon from All Programmes (Start, All Programmes, Lavasoft, Ad-Aware)

Do you mean that you had pinned Ad-Aware to the Task bar yourself and this pinned short-cut didn't work after the update?
Did you have Ad-Aware version 9.5 before you updated to 9.6?

Before I updated Adaware there was and icon on the Task-bar, which I have always used to launch Adaware
If a shortcut is placed on my Desktop after ANY new Programme, I pin it to the Task-bar and then delete the Desktop shortcut of that particular Programme, or I pin it from the All Programmes, obviously not deleting it
The Quick Launch of Adaware on the Task-bar did not dissapear after the update, that being before the restart.
After the restart of the updated Adaware, there was still an icon on the Task-bar and a new shortcut on the Desktop.
I wish I had checked the Task-bar icon after restart, but sadly I didn't.
I clicked on the Adaware icon on the Task-bar and it said to update.
I clicked on the new Shortcut on the Desktop and It did not ask for an update. I checked that it was version 9.6.0 and it was.
Did I pin the Adaware icon myself?, yes I did. This is the first time I have had to replace the icon on the Task-bar
I have had Adaware free for a number of years and always updated when asked. Sorry I do not know the last version before I updated

I don't think Ad-Aware uninstallation program will delete anything you have created yourself, in this case the quick launch. The strange thing is that the pinned icon should have started the same program in the same way as the desktop icon, since folder and file name have not changed between 9.5 and 9.6. But there are a lot of weird behaviours in the computer world

Yes, I agree with every word you have written.
I have been told that I have so much security on my system, that it can be seen from outer space.
Maybe that could have influenced the installation.
Should there be a fault with the installation programme doesn't matter one jot to me.
Lavasoft (adaware) has offered me this free programme all this time and I am truly grateful.
I am pleased that I can still use it.
