My Ad-Aware (9.0.6) hangs on "Initializing Engine" and I'm trying to get that fixed.
I just had to reimage my laptop after a particularly nasty virus (pre Ad-Aware usage). Now I am rebuilding and want to use the free Ad-Aware (9.0.6) as my anti-virus tool. I have read that you should uninstall other anti-virus software, but I'd like to not completely uninstall Windows Defender as I'm sensitive to making too many changes to the new image (Windows Defender was included in the rebuild). I have Defender turned off (as verified by "Action Center"), and have restarted, but I still hang on the "Initializing Engine". As far as I can tell, I don't have any other anti-virus sw that may be conflicting.
Should I be able to use Ad-Aware with Defender turned off (but not uninstalled)? If yes, any other suggestions for why it could hang on "initializing engine"?
Thanks!
Can Windows Defender conflict with Ad-Aware if turned off?

Hi TheRobberBaron,
Unfortunately, Ad-Aware on some computers hangs on "Initializing Engine" at the moment. Lavasoft is trying to solve the issue. It has nothing to do with Windows Defender, which can be installed alongside Ad-Aware.

Hi TheRobberBaron,
gigoku reports that an uninstallation and a new installation of Ad-Aware removed the problem with "Initializing Engine", see http://www.lavasofts...s...st&p=127246

Hi,
Lavasoft has a theory about the cause to "Initialize engine" and would like everyone with this problem to perform a simple test. Please, follow Jeffs description in the post http://www.lavasofts...s...st&p=127311 If difficult to understand just ask
