second and big problem, when adaware ist started, the system hangs on or ist very slow in reaction. the task manager can't start, switch to another running application is a question of many time.

this problem appears with install the version 9. older versions running without problems.

can anyone this confirm?

Since you have Ad-Aware Pro, you can use Lavasoft support instead of this forum with volunteers.

Having two antivirus programs running at the same time is not a good solution since that can lead to strange conflicts. My advice is that you either uninstall Trend Micro's antivirus program or turn off the real-time protection in Ad-Aware. See http://www.lavasofts...mp;#entry124418 for instruction of how to turn off Ad-Watch.

hello ceciliaB,

thx for answer.
i understand ad-aware not as an anti virus product, more as an protection against mal- and spyware in combination with trend micro.
in further versions runs both application stilll without trouble.
deactivate the real time protection from ad-aware? why then pay for the pro version?
other solutions?

Ad-Aware version 9 contains an antivirus engine as well as an antimalware.

Complete Malware Protection, including Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware

http://www.lavasoft.....php?t=features

Lavasoft has noticed that many people wants to use only the antimalware engine and is investigating how that can be solved in future versions.

I received the following answer from Lavasoft's LS thekim when someone else asked about combining Avast and Ad-Aware Free:

There shouldn’t be a problem using Ad-Aware together with Avast as long as Files is turned off. He can also turn off the anti-virus part in Settings->Ad-Watch Live->Detection Layers if he doesn’t want to use the anti-virus in real-time. Although we have seen strange conflicts between Ad-Aware and other programs, doing this should hopefully allow him to use both.

I don't know if this works in your case with Ad-Aware Pro and Trend Micro but you can try.

turn off the anti-virus part in Settings->Ad-Watch Live->Detection Layers if he doesn’t want to use the anti-virus in real-time.

I believe this is the setting which, when turned off, re-activates by itself:

Hi.
I have been looking at this thread and have experienced similar problem using AdAware Free v9 along with Trend Micro internet Security on a WinXP machine. I use AdAware for additional malware detection and removal only.
The problem I had was AdAware hanging the PC on resumption following an update. This only seemed to occur after the 9.0.2 update. It was fine when v9 first released and before 9.0.2. After looking on this forum I tried disabling AdWatch to turn off the ant-virus engine. This could be done OK, but then AdAware failed to startup (hung PC) when icon clicked.
I have now uninstalled 9.0.2 and installed an old version 8 which works fine with AdWatch switched off. I will stick with that until Lavasoft come up with something better that works on WinXP or v8 becomes no longer supported.

Hi

Sorry for responding late.

The problems you are describing are most likely caused by a conflict with 3rd party Anti-Virus products.

Important note: Ad-Aware is an Internet Security application that provides full Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware and Anti-Malware realtime protection.
If you use more than one real-time anti-virus or anti-spyware scanner at the same time, your computer may experience decreased performance, become unstable, or restart unexpectedly.

We recommend following these instructions to resolve conflict issues:
  • If you have any other AV programs installed you should temporarily disable or uninstall other security-related programs before (re)installing Ad-Aware. Download here: http://installer.lavasoft.com/adaware/
  • After installation, you need to make sure that the "Files protection" module in Ad-Aware settings->Ad-Watch Live is disabled, if you want to run Ad-Aware side by side with another AV product.
  • Further, you should configure your 3rd party AV products so they do NOT have any self protection modules enabled, before re initiating the 3rd party AV protection.
If you still have problems you may not have successfully disabled the 3rd party AV. It is very common that processes and protection features that are deemed essential are still active despite turning it off.

That being the case, you need to terminate the processes completely. Please check the online support and/or contact the Tech Support at the company that makes the 3rd party product for help on shutting down the protection completely.

Final note: As a reference on how Ad-Aware compares to other AntiVirus products, check out this article on the VB100 test:

Kind regards,

Didnt realize adaware took the hop to full blown AV/FW, im used to it being an adware scanner and soley for that reason, after installing on my PC I had nothing but problems, this explains that!

Hi GoombaFan333,

I have moved your question since you don't have any problem with Ad-Aware freezing your computer, which is the topic of this thread. You will find your question here: http://www.lavasofts...showtopic=30990

Regards,
Cecilia
