I recently installed the free version of ad-aware
It updates fine. I do the full scan, it starts scanning but I receive an Error about 5 min into the scan

Runtime Error
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
C:\ Path... AAWService.exe

The system is XP and I think windows updates are all up to date (Neighbor's Computer).

I tried restarting with a Clean Boot and didn't work

I uninstalled ad-aware and reinstalled the C++ Library found here
http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en
and then reinstalled ad-aware. I still receive the error

I'm puzzled due to the fact that I thought ad-aware put a few things into the c++ library on installation.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Is that the right link? It goes to "Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 (KB891861)."

I think this is the correct link: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)

Also, try this:

Nope sorry visitor that didn't work

tried the install fix from the other page... the module was already enabled... I turned it off and back on but no go there either

Ive tried this on a few other systems (XP and vista) no problems with any of those guys...

She told me today that she brought it to the geek squad to install some ram and something else. I looked at the paperwork looked like they had trouble getting it to boot to windows (it worked fine before she brought it in)

the last 2 lines on the paper work bug me though
"could not install"
"Mission Complete"

what kinda of service calls it a job done if they couldn't complete the job???

my point in that is it looks like there is something else wrong with the system and probably not an ad aware issue... thanks for the help

LOL, from what I hear, Geek Squad can be hit and miss depending on who they've hired. Nowadays, you can get decent free help online from various computer forums.

Probably is Ad-Aware related - this topic was started the day before the onslaught of the 8.2 bug. Try a clean uninstall of Ad-Aware, then decide if you/she wants to wait for an 8.2 fix or try the 8.1 version:
