Lavasoft Ad-aware Professional freezes after it detects "Fizzlebar" and "Softomate" during the quarantining process. In fact, futher the program advises on startup that "Your definitions are 338 days old. Would you like to check for updates now?
It further tells me that it's running "SE1r47 24.05.2005 that the Core Definitions are 1.06.r1 professional" but when it attempts to connect to the server for updates, I get an error message" "Error connection at Server. Please Retry updating Later".

I've tried running the program in Safe Mode but get the same problem. Anybody got any ideas? These two programs, Fizzlebar and Softomate with high TAC ratings seem to be nasty ones.

Hi, AttyBand.

Let's see if we can solve the WebUpdate first by doing the following:
  • Check that your firewall is allowing Ad-Aware access to the internet.
  • Deselect the "Surpress information dialogues during update" option. Click the Globe icon to access the update configuration menu > Configure > DEselect (red X) "Surpress information dialogues during update" > Connect
  • Check the WebUpdate configuration to ensure that you didn't inadvertently click on "Use HTTP Proxy". If so, deselect that option and try again.
Another option is to navigate to the Lavasoft folder and rename Defs.ref to defsold.ref and try a WebUpdate, the default location for AAW Pro being
C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Professional

If you are still unsuccessful, there may be an entry in your hosts file blocking the update. In that case, download the latest definitions file from http://download.lava...public/defs.zip . Extract the Defs.ref file to C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Professional (or other path if you did not follow the default installation).
