Since Ad-Aware 2010 version 8.1 was released, there have been a number of reports of scans stalling at:

Current Section: Critical Areas
Current Object: [enumerating clsid's]

The problem has been reported to Lavasoft, but no official response yet. The problem is new since it did not come up during beta testing; therefore, they need to replicate the problem before they can fix it.

Currently, most of the 3 pages of posts are about this issue, so rather than starting new posts about the same problem, please check this thread - the moderators will keep it updated with any news.

Thanks! :)

Update:

Official word from Lavasoft:

Hi,

We have reported this as a bug in our bug tracking system , Bug #2469. We will investigate this further.
From the posts and support requests it does seem to be happening in both vista and XP.

Regards
John - Lavasoft.

Just a quick update - Lavasoft is still working on this. They've been working with some paid users through the Lavasoft Support Center and need to analyze their crash dump files, so hopefully a fix is near.
