Hi,
Today I purchased and downloaded Ad-Aware Pro Anniversary Edition (3-year licence), which I want to use on my standalone computer, which uses Windows XP SP3 as its operating system. But I am totally unable to launch this new version, when I have had trouble-free use for several years with earlier versions.
Whenever I launch the software, all I get is the small “Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition” window on the screen, with the word “Loading” (no sign of any movement). After a short time, this window disappears and is replaced by a pop-up stating “Failed to connect to service”. I cannot even access the Ad-Aware control panel, in order to register the product.
For the record, I had exactly the same problem when I downloaded the free-of-charge upgrade from Ad-Aware SE 2008 to the Anniversary Edition (via CNET, on 15 July).
I have tried the workaround #1 mentioned in this Bulletin-board but “Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service” does not appear in the list of Services (Local).
I have tried to launch Ad-Aware Pro with my firewall de-activated but still get the same “Failed to connect to service” pop-up.
I use AVG (version 8.5) as my anti-virus programme, and have had no compatibility problems with earlier versions of Ad-Aware.
I want to be able to use the Ad-Aware scan again as soon as possible, so I hope that someone can help me to resolve this problem pronto.
Thanks in advance.
Alex

seems a few people are having this issue lately.
when you installed it, did you have any options for a custom install where you could have it not try and update itself during install?
second, do you have a HIPS program, or an AV program possibly blocking the service install portion?
Have you looked at the Event viewer to see if it shows any errors?

FYI, since you're a paid Pro user, you're allowed official Lavasoft Support via the link in my signature.Today I purchased and downloaded Ad-Aware Pro Anniversary Edition (3-year licence). The problem may stem from the uninstall of a prior version, if you merely used the uninstaller or add/remove - it can leave bits behind which may affect new version installs. To prevent problems, do a clean uninstall first. You can do this yourself if you're experienced with finding/deleting folders, files, and registry entries; or you can use programs like these useful free tools. Also, I find it best to stop all running processes before installing any software.
You can also try creating the service, it worked for the user who posted this:
