digital lock trial

used the trial of digital lock. Have been in the hospital for two weeks. Came back to find that the trial had expired. Can't access encrypted files without paying for subscription? Any way around this?

A few ideas come to mind:

1. rollback the date on your computer and see if it works.

2. copy the encrypted files to another location, uninstall/reinstall the trial again, then replace the encrypted files again to see if you have access.

3. try a System Restore back to a date before the trial ended or before you installed it.

Thanks for the post. I am running windows 2000. I don't think I can rollback or restore to a later date. I tried to move the files and re-install the program but I keep getting the message that my subscription has run out and I need to buy the program or extend the subscription. When I click on extend the subscription I am redirected to a page that says that this feature is no longer available. It seems my files have been hijacked and the only way I can get them back is to purchase the program.


Most of the trouble I am having is with Video clips. when I uninstalled the program and tried to play the clips I get the message "I don't the the necessary codec to play the file." The file name still has the "safe" extention. IE: video100.flv.safe. I have tired to remove the "safe" but still have the same problem.

For number 1. I meant to just change the PC system date, i.e. double-clicking the time in the lower-right corner. I have a trial version of a program which continues to work as long as I set the date within the 30-day trial period. This may not work if Lavasoft embeds the date within the software.

If you did not do a clean uninstall first, chances are it left some bits behind which allows it to detect the previous installation - this is so people can't continue to use the program free forever by just reinstalling. You can do a clean uninstall yourself if you're experienced with finding/deleting folders, files, and registry entries; or you can use programs like these useful free tools. Revo Uninstaller on the highest setting will remove all traces before you reinstall.

The media player's not missing a codec, it just can't read the encrypted file - changing the file extension doesn't remove the encryption.

If date change and clean uninstall/reinstall don't work, it seems the only thing to do is to install the trial version on another computer and use it to unlock the files. Unfortunately this won't be easy if the files are huge and you're using portable media. It would be much easier if the 2nd computer was networked and the files could be shared.
