I have used 2007 with no issues. I tried to install the new 2008 edition today and get the 'not a valid' message. I'm using Windows xp, professional, 2002, service pack 2. The security system is AVG7.5

I forgot to add that I did de-install the 2007 version first.

It sounds like you got a corrupted download. Could you try downloading it again (save the file to your desktop to install it from there)

When I tried to install is I got a message that reads "(null) is not a valid win32 application". One of the selling points of 2008 is that it's 64-bit. Someone told me that I was likely running a 32-bit operating system (windows XP, home edition, v 2002, service pack 2).

The Ad-aware SE is now out-of-date, I can't download 2007 & can't install 2008. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I doubt you have a 64bit system (you would know this if you were). The new version is simply compatible now for 64bit systems where it was not before and it is still 32bit compatible as most systems today are still 32 bit - so that is not your problem (64bit vs 32bit is not a factor with your install problem).

The error message you are getting is common if:

1. The installer file is corrupted
2. Sometimes you'll get that message if malware is active your machine and blocking Ad-Aware

Did you try deleting the installer file you had and downloading a fresh one? Where are you getting the download from?

Reopened by request :)

@ rondetto,

No problem - easy for any of us to get confused, including me! :)

Does that mean you got it working ok now? I'm thinking yes - if so great.

There were some others in this thread still had not reported in if resolved or not.
