Is it possible within Ad-Watch to allow certain pop-ups? There's a radio station I like to listen to on-line but the window it plays in is blocked when Ad-Watch is running. The only way I can currently get around this is to turn off the pop-up blocking feature.

Thanks,

John

I checked the sites.txt file as the FAQ suggests but I'm not finding the site that's being blocked.

Hello jhenk17 can you try this ...

Have you updated the sites.txt yet.....
If not...
You can get it from http://updates.ls-se...ublic/sites.zip
Try that, if the site is still blocked:
If you are wanting to see the blocked site...
The site's URL will be listed in the Ad-watch Event-Log window.
Go to C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-aware and open that folder.
Find the file called sites.txt and open it.
Search for the URL that was blocked. (Less the http:\\ part)
Remove that entry from the list.
Click File > Save.
Close the file.
Terminate Ad-watch.
Restart Ad-watch and go to the site.
If you follow those directions the site will now load.....
If you have any problems:
We need to see your Ad-watch Event-Log...
To post the contents of the Ad-watch Event-Log, please do the following.....
Right after the event you want to report happens...In this case the blocking of a site.
Double click the Ad-watch icon in the system tray to open the Event-Log...
Right click in the window and choose "Export Event-Log"...
Choose a location to save it to and then click "Save"...
Navigate to the folder you chose to save it in and copy\paste the entire log here in this thread.

Also have you got your setting set up like this ...

Ad-Watch Settings..

Here are the settings that have worked well for others and perhaps it will be a starting point for you. You may wish to make some adjustments once you get familiar with how Ad-Watch works.

Launch Ad-Aware, and click on the gear at the top, which will open the settings menu.

Under Ad-watch Settings / Activity:
Load Ad-watch at Windows start up: ON
Ad-watch window always on top: ON

Realtime Accuracy: HIGH PRIORITY

Under Memory/Registry:
Lock startup sections in registry: ON
Block possible browser hijack attempts: ON
Block suspicious processes: ON
Lock executable file associations: ON

Then,

Under the Tweaks Settings / Ad-Watch:
Deactivate Ad-watch during Ad-aware scans: ON
Completely reanalyze processes on change: OFF
Block ActiveX installlations: ON
Block IE save operations: ON
Block popups and banned sites: ON
Automatically pop up event log if event occurs: ON
Automatically save event log on close: ON
Log Ad-aware events: ON
Don't clear session event log on resetting statistics: ON

Then,
Under Automation / Startup Settings:
Ad-watch Startup
Start Ad-watch minimized: ON
Start Ad-watch in auto-blocking mode: OFF

A simple test to see if Ad-watch is working ...

After you have made the settings I suggested, try to download something from within Internet Explorer. It will be blocked, and the Event Log will to pop-up.

To return Ad-watch to the System Tray, make sure to click on the minimize (-) button rather than the close (X) button ...

Hello jhenk17,
In addition to the information you have been given you should also be aware of the different popup blocking modes in Ad-Watch:

1) Based on windows properties (default installation configuration) and
2) Sites.txt block list

In the default mode (#1) Ad-Watch will not use the sites.txt file to determine what it will or will not block. This setting is turned on by default and can be found in the Ad-Aware configurations menu under the Ad-Watch tweak settings

Open Ad-Aware, select the "gear" or "wheel" symbol in the upper right of the main status window and then select Tweak->Ad-Watch and look for the following option "Block pop-ups aggressively"

If you are having difficulty and this option is active (Green check-mark) then this could be the source of the blocking for the popup. If you deactivate this option (red X) Ad-Watch will use the Sites.txt block list which you can then edit as suggested.

This is also often the reason certain types of login popups are blocked.

Mike,

Thank you, this solved my problem.

Is the sites file updated on a regular basis (I noticed the one I have is over a year old) and is it included in the Ad-Aware updates?

John

John,
The latest sites.txt file is available from our website (http://www.lavasoft....pport/download/) and from the following post on the forums:

http://www.lavasofts...&st=0

We provide new updates for the block list as a separate download. To install, all you have to do is to drop the new file in your Ad-Aware directory and select yes when asked if you want to replace the existing file.
