Here's what I removed with HijackThis:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C6039E6C-BDE9-4de5-BB40-768CAA584FDC} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmp6.tmp.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {d1823f82-ad69-4ff2-bbbd-05eb74a4cee6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dpl3d8.dll
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\windows\system32\oppmlkj.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: dpl3d8 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dpl3d8.dll
I had to use the delete file on reboot on these files before removing them via the checkbox in HijackThis.
I've attached a picture of the registry warning message from RegShield.

Thanks for that info. We will look into it.

So, what's happening, dude? We've identified the problem and have been waiting WEEKS for you guys to get off your duffs and give us a fix. Unless you want to start refunding money, please respond with a status update.

Agree! Just updated and memory leak issue is worse slowdowns than spyware - can someone tell me a workaround? I have pro on one PC and plus on the other - problems with both. AND, I haven't been able to install Ipod software from Apple - not sure if this is related or not, but suspicious!
Workaround please??
Robin
The only workaround we users have been able to come up with is to turn off RegShield. It means we aren't getting the full functionality of the product we paid for, but it is a workaround. Sux, eh?

The memory leak got so bad on my machine that Ad-Watch 2007 was using over 400MB of memory - that's more than Outlook, Word, and Internet Explorer combined! Disabling RegShield seems to help (now about 39MB used), but it's automatically turned on again after restarting the program, which means that I have to remember to manually disable it again after each reboot. As a software engineer I've had to track down memory leaks many times, and it can be frustrating, but there are some great analysis tools to aid the task. So why is it taking so long to get a fix?The only workaround we users have been able to come up with is to turn off RegShield. It means we aren't getting the full functionality of the product we paid for, but it is a workaround. Sux, eh?

It sure does. Let's see:The only workaround we users have been able to come up with is to turn off RegShield. It means we aren't getting the full functionality of the product we paid for, but it is a workaround. Sux, eh?
1. RegShield must be disabled to prevent runaway memory leaks.
2. I've never seen Processes catch anything.
3. I have no use for TrackSweep. (What an annoyance to lose my history!)
4. Connect is disabled.
5. Cookies are now handled better by IE7.
(lavasoftsupport.com is so slow that I got to typing this far before the rest of this web page finished loading! And the problem is not at my end - I just downloaded a 3MB file from Microsoft in about 1 second.)
6. Total Events always shows zero.
7. Support is almost nonexistent.
Now, why did I buy this software? Looks like it's time to uninstall and request a refund, doesn't it?

Well, I got to the point where all of the registry areas were unchecked and RegShield was apparently still increasing in memory usage and not releasing it when opening and closing IE. Also, the statistics section was still showing new RegShield events. Then Ad-Watch2007.exe crashed. After restarting the program it now reports no RegShield events and memory usage is relatively constant at about 6-8MB.
I'm not sure what to make of this behavior, but maybe it will make sense to someone at Lavasoft.

Greetings from Australia.
I have been following this thread since it started and have experienced just about all the problems that others have listed: 500 Mb of RAM used by AdWatch when I did an anti-virus scan using Zone Alarm; RegShield listing 2000 hits; AdWatch and aawservice using anywhere from 7Mb to 45Mb each when not being used; other programs not loading because AdWatch grabbed 90% of System Resources etc.
Eventually I just turned RegShield off and did a weekly scan. I also stayed with version 7.0.1.6 because the next version only put an unuseable icon in my System Tray and used even more RAM.
Last week I read that version 7.0.2.3 had been released and decided to give it a go. I did NOT upgrade ... I uninstalled version 7.0.1.6 and then downloaded version 7.0.2.3 from www.download.com
I am very pleased with version 7.0.2.3 It consistently loads aawaservice as 800Kb and AdWatch stays at 24Mb ... a vast improvement on 45Mb to 500Mb.
Anyway ... would others like to try this and then report back via this thread?
Cheers

The memory/resources issue was updated in the latest update to Ad-Aware (7.0.2.3). See this post by LS Tobias in the "Updates" thread pinned at the top of the Ad-Aware 2007 forum:
http://www.lavasofts...s...ost&p=55534
Any major bug fixes or software/program improvement will posted in that topic from here on out so you may want to bookmark that topic if you are experiencing ongoing problems. However, this latest update should give our users the solution to memory usage concerns:

More information on this update and the resolution of memory usage (and more!) can be seen here in the Lavasoft Blog entry of September 26, 2007:

My question is this. Where do I now get this update? None of your links provides access and I can find absolutely NO WHERE to get this newest version.
Can you please assist me? A simple link to the update would have been a nice thing to include. I don't give @%$#%^&# about what and how and who, which is where your links take us.
I JUST WANT THE D*mn THING TO WORK!
Sorry for venting, but the support, to say the least, has been dismal.

The update to the program is available by using the Webupdate button - there is no separate download link as Ad-Aware 2007 is able to download software/program updates now via the update button. Thanks for the update, CJ. I guess if we had to wait for Tobias to let us know, we'd be waiting forever ... or nearly as long as it has taken to address this.

Your personal attack on LS Tobias is misguided. Tobias gathers feedback and information from users here to give to the Development team to work on solutions, which in this case takes some time and study to address. Please do not shoot the messenger.
Have you tried updating your program? The latest software update is: (7.0.2.3)
The links I provided are for information.

As TEGSEC posted just above, he/she went to www.download.comA simple link to the update would have been a nice thing to include.
It would also help if you said which version you are using
Access to downloads is as it has been for the past few years...
Firstly, AAW 2007 Free is available from the usual link at http://www.lavasoft.com/ which takes you to download.com's Ad-Aware 2007 7.0.2.3
Secondly, if you are a licensed user, log in to the Support Center and download the version 7.0.2.3 of your product (Plus or Pro) from the "Your Licenses" section.
Finally, you could do what I did and simply click on "Update" after opening AAW 2007 - firstly the Update Manager will check for new Defs, then it will offer you any software updates (in this case, to v7.0.2.3).
It is your choice which method that you choose - update your existing installation or uninstall/reinstall the new version.

Spike

I appreciate that you are a tad frustrated, but please remember that this a user-community, mutual-support forum - licensed users have access to paid support at the Support Center. LS Tobias is busy working on/finding solutions to users' problems - he chose to post the details of the update to resolve your vexing memory issues in the "pinned" Software Updates section for all to see, rather than in specific threads which might not be viewed by all users.
